Licensing

How Gough is licensed.

Node licensing is validated against license.penguintech.io. The Community tier includes 3 nodes across any mix of physical, virtual, and cloud machines.

Gough only meters nodes it activates: discovering hardware over PXE/iPXE, or syncing existing cloud inventory, is always free — deploying or provisioning a node consumes an allowance slot.

Professional and Enterprise tiers raise the node allowance per your license; both remain metered per node — the tier controls feature access, not how many nodes you can run.

If the license server is unreachable, Gough falls back to the last cached allowance, or Community-tier limits if nothing is cached — nodes already active are never retroactively removed.

Multi-cloud backends (AWS, Azure, GCP, Vultr, LXD, Canonical MaaS) are available on every license tier; they are controlled by a separate rollout feature flag, not a paid-tier gate.
